A Kansas man faces decades in prison after pleading guilty to shooting and killing his estranged wife during an argument over a Nintendo Switch, a case that court records show was marked by a history of abuse.
Joshua Orlando, 29, pleaded guilty this week to first-degree felony murder and aggravated kidnapping in the death of 25-year-old Ivy Unruh, according to Sedgwick County court records.
The shooting happened at the Remington Apartments on East 37th Street North in Wichita, police said.
On the morning of April 17, officers found her near “Building 5” with a gunshot wound to her upper body. She was taken to a hospital and died a few days later.

A gun was found nearby.
Orlando made the 911 call that day and admitted to shooting her, claiming she hit him during an argument.
When police arrived, Orlando was handcuffed but begged emergency medical services to help her, authorities said. Through tears, he allegedly said: “I know she didn’t mean to hurt me.”
The charging document describes the scene in detail. She was lying on her back with her head on the bottom step of a stairway, blood coming from her nose. A black backpack was strapped to her right shoulder. Her right hand clutched a plastic bag containing the console. Her purse was on her left arm.

She was apparently ready to leave.
On the left side of her body, Orlando had dropped a black Sig Sauer P365 semiautomatic 9 mm handgun, authorities said.
A leasing agent at the apartment complex told investigators that when the woman rented the unit, she said she wanted to get away from her abusive ex and was interested in the building’s security features. The agent said the woman asked her not to contact her former landlord because that person was a friend of her ex, according to the affidavit.
In August 2025, she filed for divorce.
In one section of the petition regarding distribution of assets, she said he would keep his pistol while she would keep the console.
Orlando said the divorce had multiple causes, including that she had cheated on him, according to police. In the days before the shooting, he said he contacted her about a study night since they both attended classes. That led to another argument and a decision that their relationship could not be fixed. Plans were made for him to leave some of her property at her door.
Instead, on the day of the shooting, the man went to her apartment and waited at the foot of the stairs with it in a bag, he told police.
